Contents of the ARea Resource File CD:

The Area Resource File (2007 Release) contains 3225 records. Provided are the data file, a layout for the data file in SAS and both the user and technical documentations.

Note the following changes apply to the February 2001 and later versions of the ARF:

   1. Data are provided for all FIPS codes; 1992 and later data for Virginia and Hawaii no longer have independent city data combined into their original counties.
   2. All Alaska boroughs and census areas are broken out for 1992 and later data.
   3. For data added in 2001 and later (indicated as 02/01 and 02/02 for Date On in the Technical Documentation), records for the US territories of Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are included when data were available.

Because of these changes, it is important to review the User Documentation for any differences across years. When merging this data file with earlier versions of the ARF, use the Modified FIPS code in positions 12-16, rather than the standard FIPS code in positions 2-6.
