STIPULATIONS FOR USE: Access to files on CD limited to Penn State PRI researchers.
DESCRIPTION: The American Community Survey (ACS) offers an economic, demographic, and housing database that is timely and comparable across areas, and for population groups. Since the ACS will provide data every year, we have built continuous improvements into the program. New sites will be added to the ACS until 2003 when it will be launched nationwide. On this CD-ROM you will find a copy of the 1996 questionnaire; information about the methods, concepts, and definitions the survey uses; and technical documentation related to the data. These data are provided in three formats: community profiles to view and print, detailed summary tables similar to those from the 1990 census, and public use microdata files that allow you to do tabulations for research purposes. Using the easy-to-manipulate data tables, you can quickly find the data you want. With just a click of your mouse button, you will have charts and maps you can print.
Census 2000 Supplementary Survey (C2SS) is a decennial census program designed to demonstrate the feasibility of collecting long-form type information at the same time as, but separate from, the decennial census. Is used the questionnaire and methods developed for the ACS to collect demographic, social, economic, and housing data in 2000 from a national sample of approximately 700,000 households. Group quarters were not included in the sample. The C2SS was conducted in 1,203 counties with monthly samples of about 58,000 housing units. The C2SS was designed to be used in combination with data from the ACS comparison test sites to produce annual estimates. Economic, demographic and housing characteristics from the C2SS are reported for the United States as a whole, the 50 states, and the District of Columbia, as well as large counties and cities with populations of 250,000 or more.
