Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS)

STIPULATIONS FOR USE: Access to files on PopNet limited to Penn State PRI researchers.
DESCRIPTION: The Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) XVIII package consists of several sub surveys, one of which is entitled 'Institutional Characteristics of Colleges and Universities, 1983-1984.' The universe of this study included 3,330 institutions and 133 system/central offices located throughout the United States and its territories. The file contains edited data for 3,305 reporting units (3,188 institutions and 117 system/central offices). Data for the remaining 158 reporting units are residual from prior years and HEGIS XVII Basic Student Charges master file. The Institutional Characteristics master file provides all of the basic characteristics for each institution included in the HEGIS survey universe. All other HEGIS surveys access the Institutional Characteristics file in the creation of the individual survey master files. The data are contained in one file with a logical record length of 100 characters. There are 26,648 total records.
