DESCRIPTION: The Legalized Population Survey public use data file contains information about a sample of 6,193 illegal aliens who were living in the United States in 1986/87 when they sought legal permanent residence through the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Survey data was collected from the entire group in 1989, and again (for 4,012 of these respondents) in 1992. LPS1 focused on the respondents' characteristics and experiences prior to and at the time of application for legalization. LPS2 examined the effects of legalization on respondents' lives during the four to five years since they first applied for lawful residence.
