DESCRIPTION: This study was designed to investigate the relationship between social change and family formation in the Western Chitwan valley in south central Nepal. Individual-level, life history, and child data are available as well as a household census and household relationship grid. Major areas of investigation include marriage, childbearing, contraceptive use, education, ethnicity, media exposure, voluntary association participation, migration, infant mortality, children's education, living arrangements, labor force participation, childhood community context, arranged marriage, intergenerational exchange/support, attitudes/preferences, religion, marital quality, and social networks. Participants were 15-59 years of age, eating/sleeping in the selected neighborhood for three or more of the past six months. Spouses of eligible respondents based upon the above criteria were also included.
