The data collections in SODAPOP will still be available from the PRI. If you should have concerns about this change to the SODAPOP service or need to access some of the data, contact the PRI's Computational and Spatial Analysis (CSA) core at csa-info@psu.edu.

STIPULATIONS FOR USE: Open Access to SodaPop. By requesting this data, you agree to adhere to the following restrictions: 1) This dataset will be used for valid research purposes only; 2) No attempt to identify an individual will be made. If the identity of an individual is discovered inadvertently, this will be made known to the Marital Instability Over the Life Course Project (via sodapop@pop.psu.edu). 3) These data will not be distributed to other individuals or organizations unless authorization is received from the Marital Instability Over the Life Course Project. 4) Acknowledge use of these data in your publications and presentations using the citation provided below.

DESCRIPTION:  This study describes the data available from a six wave panel study of a national sample of individuals 55 years of age and under who were married. They were first interviewed by telephone in the fall of 1980. Spouses were not interviewed. The sample was reinterviewed in the fall of 1983, 1988, 1992, 1996, and 2000. In 1992 and 1996 offspring 19 years of age who had been living in the household in 1980 were interviewed. Offspring interviewed in 1992 were also interviewed in 1996 along offspring who qualified for inclusion in the study by reaching the age of 19. The focus of the study has been on tracking changes in marital quality, predicting divorce, predicting remarriage, and the consequenses of changes in marital quality and becoming divorced. The effects of parental divorce and changes in marital quality on offspring were also studied.
